How did you start your career in art?
I grew up surrounded by prints and paintings at home, so it was always going to be a natural career path – after graduating from Edinburgh University I worked for one of Scotland’s leading Fine Art galleries and then spent a couple of years with a Fine Art Publishing company.
What was the idea behind starting Business Art?
When I meet people often the first thing they say is “Oh, I don’t know anything about art!” ‘Art’ seems like a closed book to so many people, but it shouldn’t be like that. I founded Business Art with the aim of making art more accessible - sourcing and supplying artwork to all types of different businesses.
What’s your advice when choosing artwork?
I think first and foremost it’s about finding out what you like – this should be about discovering new artists and styles, finding out what suits you and your business – and that’s where Business Art comes in!
What achievement are you most proud of?
Taking Business Art ‘international’ – we have just completed a large project in Delhi, India. We sourced over 250 works of art and coordinated the framing in India. A local team of installers were trained by Business Art. The biggest challenge was finding a 4 foot high carved sculpture of the Elephant God Ganesha with 24 hours notice!
